Here is what the Jurors said:
Barbara Franchin – Talent Scout and Director of EVE/ITS
FASHION
Every year is a different year for talents. Just like wine grapes, you can nurture them and grow them as best as you can but it doesn’t necessarily mean that your wine will result always unique. Every year we open the portfolios and would love to find new and unique creativity and not only perfectly executed projects, but being unique is not easy and certainly not frequent. Even very big brands struggle to keep on presenting new creativity every season, it is a very difficult task. There’s cycles, ups and downs, peaks…it’s not a straight line. Every year for me is incredibly interesting anyways and research is a matter of patience and waiting. Let’s take our time in this at least.
Sara Maino - Fashion Editor Vogue Italia/Vogue.it
FASHION
I felt an overall sensation of great creativity in all of the projects! So many great ideas waiting to be seen and to trigger a reaction in people! Talents are everywhere and ITS is the best place to be and to be seen.
ACCESSORIES
Sometimes creativity goes beyond reality and it’s not easy to find the right piece that can actually also work. But if you succeed, then magic happens. This is what I found looking at all the accessories projects: a few of them were really beyond magic!
Kat Nadj - UK HR Manager, Gucci Group Services Ltd.
FASHION
It is amazing at how many new ideas are highlighted when looking through the portfolios. The big trend of the year is that menswear seems to be stronger and sharper than ladieswear. The overall aesthetics are strong and streamlined, some reflecting the trends from different schools and countries.
ACCESSORIES
Jewellery and hats stood out the most in the accessories portfolios. The jewellery was inspiring and delicate with the use of natural materials and simple designs. In terms of aesthetics, the prize goes to hats this year, which are not only creative but also practical and wearable.
Valentina Maggi - Director of the Design Practice at Floriane de St Pierre
FASHION
I had writers block at my first ITS edition and things haven’t changed! But I would like to congratulate ITS for capturing the attention, the (profound) comprehension and support of the Trieste Town Hall that once again demonstrated how much it believes in the project and importance for international visibility of the city!
ACCESSORIES
I was a bit sad because no portfolio gave me a strong emotion…But I hope I will change my mind when we will see the actual prototypes! See you in July!
Elisa Palomino - Fashion Designer and Vice President of Design For Diane Von Funrstenberg
FASHION
It is always such a pleasure to come to Trieste and be part of this amazing competition. This season we had to struggle through vulcano eruptions and flight delays, but it is a big joy to encounter the students’ work finally. The collections are great, as usual, with a lot of very interesting sportswear with a wide selection of puffers in all kinds of shapes and patterns. I feel the lack of more poetic collections and also the rest of the jury did, which I think is a shame. But hopefully dreamy times will come soon!
ACCESSORIES
Accessories keep growing and ITS keeps doing a terrific job in researching all around the globe. This year we managed to pull a great selection of accessories in different disciplines: shoes, bags, jewellery and millinery were all represented, which makes a perfect balance.

Bernadette Wittmann - Founder and Head of BWG S.L.
FASHION
Globally, high levels of creativity were missing. Young designers tried to stay safe, feeling insecure to show strong personal emotions. Men collections were generally better presented, with stronger images and technical finishing than women collections. The lack of structure in some of the portfolios allowed for misinterpretation by the jury, so the vision of some of the designs got lost. Thanks so much to everybody at ITS, it is always a big pleasure to be with you.
ACCESSORIES
Compared to last year there were many more collections focused on jewellery, with shoes and bag projects lacking fresh creativity or interesting technical works though showing a higher quality level. Bearing in mind the quite difficult market situation - as for fashion - the results obtained by the accessories collections is still strong and inspiring. Thanks to the incredible work of the whole ITS team!
Vladimiro Baldin - Creative Center Coordinator at Diesel
FASHION
I was expecting to see innovation from the young talents we went through this year, a freshness that would drive fashion out of the usual track, creating the basis for a new movement…So I was disappointed to see that most of them played safe!
Don’t be afraid to be daring, to be different..be anything that can let you be alive and listen to your insight to create, instead of following the existing trends!
ACCESSORIES
This year I saw more body pieces and jewellery than shoes and bag projects. Though not so innovative, I found shoes and bags projects were well made. So as I did for the fashion projects, I encourage the students to follow more their personal feelings than the current trends!
Deanna Ferretti - Entrepreneur
FASHION
To Barbara and all of the ITS staff my warm compliments for their professional care and devotion towards new emerging talents. This year’s edition probably reflects today’s situation: it was very difficult to choose because there were few special and creative projects.
ACCESSORIES
In a moment where everything is very similar and creativity has slightly slowed down, there are some beautiful exceptions.
Fabio Talpo - YKK Product Innovation Team (On behalf of designer Kei Kagami)
ACCESSORIES
I have noticed a very aesthetical use of zipper, with less proposals for a functional or totally innovative use. I appreciated the most projects presenting raw materials, in leather or the like. The most interesting projects for YKK were those developing ideas on bags, shoes and suitcases while preserving style and design.
